President Criticizes Lax Response to Stalled Initiatives

variety of his stalled domestic and security priorities and declared
himself open to compromise in the politically charged standoff over
expansion of a children's health insurance program that faces a key
vote tomorrow.

Also at a news conference this morning, Bush urged Turkey not to send
troops into northern Iraq to hunt Kurdish militants, while exhorting
Congress not to pass a symbolic resolution that has angered Ankara by
declaring the nearly century-old mass killing of Armenians to be

Bush addressed a wide array of foreign and domestic issues during the
hour-long session as he tried to shape the debate in Washington and
present himself as a commanding figure despite his political problems.
He ticked off a long list of initiatives on national security,
